RICHMOND – April 2, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Bob McDonnell announced today $1 million for three permanent supportive housing grants. The grants come from a special funding allocation of $1 million included in the governor’s budget for fiscal year 2013.

Speaking about today’s announcement, Governor McDonnell said, “Over the past few years we have made significant progress toward our goal of reducing statewide homelessness, but there is still much more we can accomplish together. The grants announced today are another example of our concerted efforts to address the housing needs for persons who experience chronic homelessness and those with disabilities.”

The special funding allocation was made to support one of the key goals in the Homeless Policy Outcomes Report from November 2010. That report called for increasing the supply of permanent supportive housing for persons with disabilities and those experiencing chronic homelessness. In addition to providing affordable housing, this type of housing also offers access to services appropriate to the targeted population.

The grants will create 19 housing units for chronically homeless and disabled persons. Thirteen applications totaling $5.2 million were received for this year’s grant cycle.
