AVAILABILITY OF 2013 EMERGENCY SOLUTIONS GRANT APPLICATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 1, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) announces the availability of Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) applications for the 2013 grant year.

Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds may be used for:

Provision of “street outreach”/essential services for chronically homeless (unsheltered) persons. Eligible activities include engagement, case management, emergency health services, and ground transportation.
Operation or renovation of facilities providing emergency shelter
Provision of essential services for persons housed in an emergency shelter
Homelessness prevention and/or rapid re-housing services for qualified individuals and families who are literally homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. Eligible activities include provision of short- and/or medium-term rental assistance and also intake services, housing search & placement, and case management relative to assisting clients with rental assistance

Applications will be available for pick-up between the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at VIHFA’s offices located at 3202 Frenchtown Plaza, St. Thomas, and 100 Lagoon Complex, Suite 4 Frederiksted, St. Croix starting on Monday, May 6, 2013. Applications will be due on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 3:00 PM. No extensions of the due date will be granted.

Orientation sessions for prospective applicants will be held in the respective island districts as follows: St. Croix – Thursday, May 21, 2013 and St. Thomas/St. John – Tuesday, May 23, 2013. The sessions, which will be held at the VIHFA’s Training Room on each respective island, will begin at 10:00 AM. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the orientation sessions.
