Corker, Warner, Vitter, Warren Reintroduce “Jumpstart GSE Reform Act”

Williamsburg Blvd. Water Main Projects Starting this Month

Arlington will start building a new 24-inch water main this month along Williamsburg Boulevard, and modify pipes to the Minor Hill Reservoir and its four underground storage tanks. The work also includes closing a gap that exists on a previously installed 36-inch water main under the westbound lanes between North Frederick and North Harrison Streets.

SolarizeAlexandria Launches to Help Residents Go Solar

SolarizeAlexandria, a program to make it easier and more affordable for residents to install solar power systems on Alexandria homes, launched September 7 and will run through November 10. The program provides a free home energy efficiency check-up and solar site assessment; discount pricing through bulk purchasing; project facilitation and qualified installation; financing and federal tax incentive options; and qualification for the City of Alexandria’s Solar Energy Equipment Tax Exemption.

2015 Home Sales July: Virginia Residential Real Estate Market Shows Continuing Improvement

July residential real estate sales reflected a significant uptick from the same period last year, according to the July 2015 Home Sales Report released by the Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR). The 13 percent increase in sales over July 2014 continues an eight-year trend of year-over-year improvement. July sales are typically lower than the volume per month for June or any single month of the second quarter. In addition, the decrease of 8 percent from June indicates buoyancy from the 11 percent month-to-month dip averaged over the prior seven years for the same period.<

Governor McAuliffe Announces More Than $8.2 Million in Community Development Block Grants

Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced more than $8.2 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for 12 projects in Virginia. Since 1982, the federally-funded CDBG program has been administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), and Virginia receives approximately $17 million annually for this grant program.

Former Virginia Short Sale Specialist Sentenced to Prison for Mortgage and Tax Fraud

An Ashburn, Virginia, resident was sentenced to prison today for mortgage and tax fraud, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Caroline D. Ciraolo of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente of the Eastern District of Virginia.
