EPA Awards Grant to Virginia Tech for Water Sampling in Flint

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced an $80,000 grant to Virginia Tech University which will fund sampling to measure lead levels in Flint’s drinking water. Beginning this week, Virginia Tech researchers will work with residents to collect water samples from the 271 Flint residences that were first sampled in August 2015.

Arlington Celebrates Two New Group Homes as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Begins

The public is invited to join the Arlington County Board at a proclamation ceremony on Tuesday, March 1 declaring March 2016 “Including People with Developmental Disabilities Month.” The Board and County staff will celebrate the recent opening of two new group homes in Arlington for residents with intellectual disabilities who had been living in state-run regional institutions.

Alexandria City Council to Hold Public Hearing on Ramsey Homes on March 12

At its regular meeting on February 23, 2016, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to rescind its vote on February 20 to approve a master plan amendment and deny a rezoning of the Ramsey Homes property at 699 N. Patrick St. The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority, which owns the property, proposed to replace the existing 15 public housing units in four two-story buildings with 53 public and affordable units in two three-story buildings

Banking Committee Democrats Urge Chairman Shelby to Clear Nominations Backlog

Democrats on the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs today urged Chairman Richard Shelby to stop obstructing President Obama’s nominees for critical Administration positions related to financial oversight, national security, export financing, and public transportation safety. County Manager Proposes $1.19 Billion FY 2017 Budget

Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz today previewed for the County Board a proposed $1.19 billion Base Budget for FY 2017 that is balanced and is a 2.8 percent increase above the FY 2016 adopted budget. WARNER, KAINE, WITTMAN ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $50,000 IN HUD FUNDING FOR THE PAMUNKEY TRIBE

U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and U.S. Representative Rob Wittman announced today that the Pamunkey Indian Nation will receive $50,282 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the development and management of affordable housing. Earlier this month, the Pamunkey’s federal recognition by the Bureau of Indian Affairs became effective, which gives the tribe eligibility and access to federal benefits such as housing, education and health care.
