NORFOLK, VA – January 4, 2008 – Families who need help with emergency heating needs this winter may apply for the Crisis Assistance Program through March 17, 2008 at any Norfolk Department of Human Services location. Crisis Assistance is available to Norfolk residents with emergency heating expenses and monthly gross incomes that meet eligibility guidelines. Crisis Assistance can currently be used to help families and individuals with:
- Payment of Utility Deposits
- Repair or replacement of heating equipment
Beginning January 2, 2008 the Crisis Fuel Assistance component will cover the payment of primary heating costs under special circumstances. In order to qualify for Crisis Fuel Assistance, you must have a cut off notice if you heat with gas or electricity. Residents who heat with propane, oil or kerosene must be either low on, or out of heating fuel. The maximum gross monthly income to qualify is $1,107 before taxes for a household of one, and $2,238 before taxes for a family of four.
The Crisis Assistance Program is funded by the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program block grant and serves approximately 100,000 households each year across the Commonwealth.
