In Paper or Online? More Options for Permit Applications

Effective immediately, customers can choose to submit in paper or electronically for Building Permit and Land Disturbance Applications. The County is making both options available, to make it easier for customers to submit their applications.

U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, along with Representatives Rob Wittman, Randy Forbes and Morgan Griffith, sent a letter to President Obama supporting Governor Terry McAuliffe’s request that the administration declare a major disaster declaration in response to the severe storm and deadly tornadoes on February 24, 2016. The storms impacted 12 localities in total and had a particularly destructive impact on Sussex, Appomattox and Essex Counties.

Firefighters and Red Cross Volunteers to Install Free Smoke Alarms

The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) and Red Cross in the National Capital Region are teaming up to reduce the number of fire-related injuries and fatalities by ensuring residents have working smoke alarms. Firefighters and Red Cross volunteers will kick off this initiative Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., by going door-to-door in the Douglas Park and Nauck neighborhoods, near Fire Station 9, to offer smoke alarm inspections and home fire safety checks. The teams will install free smoke alarms in homes that need them.

Governor McAuliffe Announces Designation of Four New Virginia Main Street Communities

Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced the designation of four communities in the Virginia Main Street (VMS) program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The newly-designated communities include the town of Wytheville, the cities of Danville and Lexington and Gloucester Courthouse in Gloucester County. The communities were selected based on their Main Street organization’s preparedness to identify, plan and implement programs and services for the defined downtown district, the target area of responsibility

Virginia State Agencies Partner with USDA Rural Development on Innovative Housing Pilot Program

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announced today the launch of a new housing pilot program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development (USDA-RD). Through the program, DHCD’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) will be acquiring, renovating and reselling 39 USDA-RD foreclosed properties across Virginia.
