Rahall introduces toothless “resolution” for show, refuses to join Capito’s bill
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – September 25, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — State senator and congressional candidate Evan Jenkins said Wednesday that Congressman Nick Rahall’s response to the new EPA rule effectively banning new coal-fired power plants is disingenuous at best.
Rahall introduced a toothless “sense of the Congress” resolution opposing the new rule. It lacks the force of law, and Rahall has failed to build consensus; five days later, his resolution has zero co-sponsors.
Worse, Rahall has refused to co-sponsor Rep. Capito’s bill, which would effectively stop the implementation of EPA’s coal-killing rule. In contrast to Rahall, Capito has actually worked to rally her colleagues, picking up 11 co-sponsors thus far. Rahall is conspicuously absent from the list.
“Congressman Rahall’s idea of fighting the Obama EPA is to issue a press release, generate some headlines and then wash his hands of the matter afterward,” Jenkins said. “Southern West Virginia deserves a congressman who will be a workhouse fighting to restrict EPA’s authority, not a showhorse who refuses to do the work necessary to stop the War on Coal.”
