October residential real estate sales indicate sustained market improvement, with a rise of over five percent from the same time period last year. Higher volume coupled with a higher median sales price accounts for the bump in overall transactional value from $2.59 to $2.72 billion. According to the October 2015 Home Sales Report released by the Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR), sales each month this year have exceeded the sales for the corresponding months in 2014.
Arlington Warns Residents of False Real Estate Tax Correspondence
Many Arlington County homeowners have received correspondence, signed by Jud Allen of Express Homebuyers, falsely claiming that these owners owe real estate taxes and that the County may take their homes away from them due to delinquent taxes, Arlington County Treasurer Carla de la Pava said.

Year-Round Yard Waste Collection Coming to Arlington
The Household Solid Waste Rate would remain $271.04 through the end of Fiscal Year 2016, and the addition of year-round yard waste services could increase the rate to no more than $308 in Fiscal Year 2017. Arlington currently charges the lowest per-household solid waste rate in the region, roughly $66 less than the next lowest cost jurisdiction.

Ahead of Veteran’s Day tomorrow, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced today that Harrisonburg, Virginia will receive a $96,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will be awarded to public housing agencies to provide affordable housing and rental assistance to homeless veterans.

Virginia Association of REALTORS® Elects Bill White as 2016 President
William A. “Bill” White Jr., president and owner of Joyner Fine Properties, has been elected to serve as 2016 president of the Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR). He succeeds Deborah A Baisden as the top volunteer elected leader of VAR, which is the largest trade association in the state of Virginia with more than 31,000 members. White will assume his new VAR post in November 2015.
