2012 Saw 6% Increase in Number of Arlington Shelter Users

ARLINGTON, VA - January 30, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- The number of people served in Arlington homeless shelters rose 6% in 2012, but the average length of time a person stayed in shelter decreased 28%. The biggest improvement was in housing homeless families, where the average length of stay fell from 5.4 months to 3 months

City of Alexandria Purchases Polk Avenue Property for Use as Open Space

Alexandria, VA - January 08, 2012 - (RealEstateRama) -- On December 11, 2012 City Council authorized City Manager Rashad M. Young to contract for the acquisition of the property at 5325 Polk Ave. for $1.9 million. The City’s purchase of this 2.34 acre property used the $1.5 million provided by the Department of Defense to mitigate loss of open space in the West End, as well as $0.4 million in City Open Space funds. The Beauregard Rezoning Advisory Group recommended the acquisition of this site in October 2012 after reviewing 8 sites in the City’s west End which had been nominated by City residents

City of Alexandria Releases Draft Housing Master Plan for Public Comment

November 30, 2012 - (RealEstateRama) -- The City of Alexandria has released its draft Housing Master Plan for public review and comment. The Housing Master Plan is intended to guide future preservation and enhancement of affordable housing opportunities, community diversity, and economic sustainability in Alexandria. In developing the Plan, the City held a series of 15 public meetings; a bus tour of the City’s affordable housing stock; and an allocation exercise that gave residents and other stakeholders the opportunity to consider future housing needs and locations.
