Communities throughout Virginia have made vast improvements in their homelessness response and housing assistance systems. By using evidenced-based tools for triaging the needs of identified veterans, making both rapid re-housing and permanent supportive housing resources available, as well as incorporating the principles of Housing First throughout the entire spectrum of housing assistance for a veteran, these systems have been streamlined to help a veteran experiencing homelessness to quickly secure permanent housing.

Ahead of Veteran’s Day tomorrow, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced today that Harrisonburg, Virginia will receive a $96,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will be awarded to public housing agencies to provide affordable housing and rental assistance to homeless veterans.

The Virginia Resources Authority’s (VRA) refinancing of two (VRA) Wastewater and Water System Revenue Bonds will save Arlington County $2.2 million in reduced interest rates on those loans over the next 14 years. The loans were one of the funding sources for the County’s massive, $568 million upgrade and expansion of its aging Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), substantially completed in 2012, to meet the demands of a growing population and increased state and federal water pollution control requirements

Williamsburg Blvd. Water Main Projects Starting this Month
Arlington will start building a new 24-inch water main this month along Williamsburg Boulevard, and modify pipes to the Minor Hill Reservoir and its four underground storage tanks. The work also includes closing a gap that exists on a previously installed 36-inch water main under the westbound lanes between North Frederick and North Harrison Streets.
