Norfolk, VA – January 11, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The City of Norfolk will sponsor its tenth Project Homeless Connect, a one-day, mega service event where homeless adults, especially those staying on the streets, can connect to vital resources and services, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 8:30 am at the Scope Exhibition Hall. Mayor Paul D. Fraim will address the volunteers and provider organizations at 8 am.
Norfolk launched the initiative five years ago to offer a wide variety of local, state and federal programs and services to the homeless in one, central location. Project Homeless Connect is designed to make it easier and more convenient for homeless men and women to receive essential, and sometimes critical, medial care and other essential community services.
During each Project Homeless Connect event, between 500 and 600 homeless individuals receive assistance. Legal assistance, food stamps, help obtaining identification cards, and eye exams are some of the services provided.
Medical and dental providers will provide exams and professional barbers will be on hand to offer haircuts. On-the-spot employment interviews will again be available this year.
Project Homeless Connect is one of several programs working to fulfill the promise of The Blueprint, the City’s multi-faceted plan to end homelessness in Norfolk in 10 years.
