Nye Authors Amendment to Support Families of Wounded Warriors

Washington, DC – July 28, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-02) wants Congress to increase funding for a program that provides housing assistance to the families of wounded troops.

Nye has authored an amendment to upcoming Defense Appropriations bill that will double the funding for the Fisher House Foundation – which provides housing to allow military family members to be close to their loved-ones during hospitalizations or medical treatment.

Military personnel often have to travel far from home to receive specialized treatment, taking them away from their families during a difficult time. The troops I worked with in Iraq and Afghanistan were willing to put their lives on the line for our country, and we should do everything in our power to ease the burden on our wounded warriors and their families,” said Congressman Glenn Nye, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Nye submitted his amendment to the House Rules Committee on Monday, July 27th. If the amendment is approved in the Rules Committee, it will be voted on by the full House of Representatives as part of 2010 Defense Appropriations Act.

Specifically, the amendment would add $5,000,000 to the funding for the Fisher House Foundation for the construction and furnishing of additional houses.
