Hampton, VA — For the sixth year in a row, Hampton has been acknowledged as one of the most technology-advanced cities in America as named by the Center for Digital Government. This designation is based on its 2007 Digital Cities Survey. The annual study examines how city governments are using digital technologies to better serve their citizens and streamline operations.
“This year’s winners have really raised the bar for cities,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive director for the Center for Digital Government. “Digital technology connects citizens with their government on a level never before achieved.”
The survey, developed by the Center and the National League of Cities (NLC) in 2001, is open to all U.S. cities with a population of 30,000 or more. Respondent cities are classified into four population size based categories: 250,000 or greater; 125,000-249,999; 75,000-124,999; and 30,000-74,999. Hampton placed fourth in the 125,000-249,999 population category.
Top ten cities have a higher total survey score than the other cities in their category, reflecting a fuller implementation of technology benchmarks. Benchmarks include implementation and adoption of online service delivery, infrastructure standards and architecture components, and the planning and governance of digital government.
