The Loudoun County Department of Family Services, in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services (MR/MR/SAS) and Volunteers of America, has re-opened the Homeless Drop-In Center on old Sycolin Road in Leesburg previously operated by The Good Shepherd Alliance.
The center is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services provided include a nutritious meal, shower and basic personal hygiene items, laundry facilities, information and referral to community resources, and counseling services from social workers.
“It is our intent to provide the best services possible to those individuals in need of the Drop-In Center,” said Assistant Director of the Department of Family Services Ron Eamich. “We have professional staff available from Family Services and MR/MR/SAS. These folks will be able to provide counseling if needed to those who come to the center. We are also grateful for the regular help of local nonprofits and churches. Interfaith Relief provides food for the center on a regular basis, as well as Catholic Charities, New Jerusalem Lutheran Church and St. John’s Catholic Church, which are also providing bag lunch meals for the people who use the center.”
“I am very pleased with what the county has accomplished. Things are running smoothly,” said Lynn Barrett, one of the Social Workers from the Department of Family Services who will be staffing the center. “We’ve already begun providing counseling and referral services to those using the center.”
The center reopened July 10. In its first three days of operation, ten individuals received services at the center.
