Personal Property Notices Sent; Residents Urged to Verify Information Online
January 4, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Robert S. Wertz, Jr., Loudoun’s Commissioner of the Revenue, has mailed notification of 2011 personal property filing requirements to all personal property owners currently on the tax rolls, for a total of 160,000 notices. 2011 marks the second year that property owners are being instructed to perform the annual vehicle reporting process online. The online process replaces the need to complete and return by mail a form for each automobile, truck, motorcycle, camper, trailer, boat, motorhome, aircraft, or mobile home that you own.
This week, residents will receive a notice in the mail with an account number that they’ll use to review and update their personal property tax records for the 2011 tax year. Instead of completing and mailing a form, changes should be reported online at www.loudoun.gov/vehicle-file.
Residents can report corrections, an address change, a vehicle sale or disposal, or unusually high mileage. The Commissioner asks that all changes be submitted by February 1, 2011, to assist in establishing accurate assessment information for the 2011 calendar year.
To avoid late filing penalties, newly acquired vehicles or those recently entering Loudoun County must be reported to the Commissioner of the Revenue within 60 days of purchase or move to Loudoun County. For information or filing assistance, please visit www.loudoun.gov/cor or contact the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue at ppdcor (at) loudoun (dot) gov or 703-777-0260 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
