RICHMOND, Va. – Interested in becoming a homeowner but don’t know how to begin the process? The Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and the Central Virginia Housing Coalition have the answer.
The Central Virginia Housing Coalition is offering VHDA’s free homeownership classes to interested people from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., January 22 and January 24, 2008 at the Central Virginia Housing Coalition office, located at 208 Hudgins Road in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
“We encourage anyone who is curious about homeownership to attend these free classes,” said Anne Gwaltney, VHDA Homeownership Education manager. “In just two classes, participants hopefully will walk away with the knowledge and know-how to become successful homeowners.”
Homeownership education classes cover topics including credit issues, personal finances, home inspections and the role of lenders and real estate agents. To become eligible for VHDA loans, borrowers must complete VHDA’s Homeownership Class.

About VHDA
VHDA was created by the General Assembly to help make housing more affordable for Virginians. In addition to providing loans to developers for the creation, rehabilitation and renovation of affordable rental units, VHDA provides loans to consumers to purchase and/or renovate homes. VHDA raises money by selling bonds to private investors; the authority does not receive federal or state funds to finance any of its lending programs.
VHDA lends money to homebuyers via a network of lenders throughout the state. Prospective purchasers apply for a VHDA-financed loan through a local lender, who will process the loan application and then approve and close the loan on VHDA’s behalf.
